Student Assistants

Working in Government Documents includes the following: helping patrons, filing documents, assisting processing new materials, and other projects as assigned. During your first few shifts we will do some training. If you ever have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask Mary Lib. We’d much rather explain something again rather than lose documents because of misfiling.

When you first get into work you should ask Mary Lib what needs to be done. This will include shelving items on the shelving truck, monitoring the stacks as you’re shelving, and correcting shelving mistakes as you find them. Our newest project is the govdocs weeding project; we’ll be asking you to list weeded documents to send to other libraries. After doing your work, you can use time to study or use the internet. Just be sure that patrons know you are available to answer questions!

There may be times when you have a question and Mary Lib, Mary, and Lauren are not here. In those cases ask the student worker in Microtext. If the student worker doesn’t know, leave a note to Mary Lib. Be sure to take down the patron’s name, contact information, and a brief description of the situation!

When you leave after work (or any other reason) change the neon yellow sign on the desk to be accurate. The first one here and last one to leave are responsible for opening and closing govdocs.

If you ever have any questions about anything please ask Mary Lib, she’s here to help!
