Emailing scanned documents
All the microfilm/fiche machines are capable of scanning material. They can then send a digital copy to an email account or make a CD. The machines can be a little bit finicky. If there is not enough information listed here don’t hesitate to use the more detailed instructions in the binder on the student desk. We're transitioning to new software, so this page needs to be updated.
Step 1: Make sure the computer is on and the reader says “Pc.” There is a toggle switch that’s explained in the notebook.
Step 2: Scan as you normally would, add images to folder, and stop when you have 10 images or less in a folder
Step 3 (email): Click on the “email images” button. If you need a password it’s written on the post-it on the clipboard. We strongly recommend checking email from another computer in the library to make sure the files arrived at your email address.
Step 4 (CD): This only works with CD-R CDs! Click “save images to disc,” type file name and click “save,” click “STOP/return to start screen” and “yes,” click “exit” on ESP menu bar, double click RecordNow icon, select the “make a data disc option” and follow directions. Whew!
Step 5: Try to remember not to turn off the computer. When you turn the computer off it loses the password!
This can sometimes be a stressful process. You can ask Lauren or Mary if you have any questions. If it’s after hours and the patron doesn’t mind coming back later take down their information and the problem for Lauren to look at the next day.
